Posted December 9, 2009. 300 is meant to be a bit smoother & quieter than the 200Tdi, 300 has a bit more BHP & Torque. 195lbft & 111bhp where's a genuine Defender 200Tdi is 188lbft & 107bhp, doubt you'll tell much difference in fuel use between the 2. in a disco, the 200 is also 111bhp and 195lbft. Here you will find a comprehensive guide to the ever-popular 200 and 300 TDi engines, used by Land Rover in the Discovery, Defender and Range Rover Classic from 1989 onwards. This guide covers history, specifications, known weaknesses , maintenance and rebuilding . I would check it is the turbo and not the stem seals. If it is the stems, then have the head reconned and then refit it, leaving the rest of the engine well enough alone. A standard 300tdi in either auto or manual form is fine for pretty much anything. As said the engine is on 80k, as it had a recon engine at 120k. Land Rover Defender 300Tdi Block. Defender 130 - 300 Tdi; Discovery I - 300 Tdi; Range Rover Classic - 300 Tdi; 2.8 Liter 300 Tdi Diesel Engine Assembly. 200Tdi and 300Tdi valve clearances. Adjusting valve clearances is a Land Rover servicing task for every 12000 miles. Its purpose is to measure the gap between the top of the valve cap cap and the face of the rocker arm to allow for expansion of the valve stem when the engine is hot. Bascically it makes sure that the valves are opening far When I had a 300tdi Discovery, the cam belt was replaced but put on a tooth out of alignment. Consequently it used to belch out grey emissions when on the overrun. Although the current issue happens under different conditions, it does look similar. Occasionally when starting, everything feels a bit . . . different. That would be with the proper 300TDI rover engine. You won't (or you would be ridiculously lucky if you did) find a rover diesel at a junk yard. Lot's of write ups here on just search for 300TDI conversions. Currently in the process of removing the engine out of our 300Tdi 1997 Defender 110 with R380 gearbox. I've got access to an engine hoist which should hopefully help. However, trying to figure out the best plan of attack. My main concern once the gearbox has been lowered is being able to get it underneath the chassis rails and completely out. Land Rover engines including TD5, 300TDI, 200TDI, V8, 2.5 Turbo Diesel/ 2.5 D n/a, 2. - For a LHD, move the engine forward with the longer bellhousing from a Discovery !!! - The story changes if you take a Defender 200Tdi, which has the turbo at a higher position. I have been driving 200Tdi, 300Tdi and 2.8TGV engines for the last 20 years and never had any serious problems. 200tdi, for sure, makes more noice, feul consumption is yYLe.
